Dairy Industry in India- SWOT Analysis

The dairy industry plays an important role in the socio-economic development of India, generating huge rural employment and providing cheap nutritional food to a vast population. The Indian dairy industry is mounting hastily, in a bid to match up with the advancement around the world. India is the world’s largest producer of dairy products by volume and has the world’s largest dairy herd. . Dairy development in India has been acknowledged the world over as one of modern India’s most successful developmental programme. Today, India is the largest milk producing country in the world.

With rising disposable incomes, emerging middle class and increasing health awareness, dairy industry is bound to flourish. Also, changing consumer tastes towards value added dairy products along with Government initiatives for the sector has led to a growth wave in the industry. Factoring all these growth supplements, we have estimated the industry to be in the pink of its health in the near future and would be soaring to new heights. Indian Dairy industry currently pegged at USD 47 billion will jump to reach USD 67 billion by 2015.
