In 2016, gum posted low current value growth of 1%, with retail volume sales little changed at 3,700 tonnes. Growth was attributable to premium brands within the category; however, growth was lower than the 2% rise in current terms in 2015. The decline in growth was attributable to a minimal number of significant product launches, although special promotions were observed, such as Wrigley’s Extra gum, through which customers received a free coffee cup when any two packs of Extra were bought.
