New Topical SBI Reports on Global Energy Industry

13 Mar 2012 • by Natalie Aster

Biorenewable Chemicals World Market. While there are hundreds of platform and intermediate chemicals that can be made from biorenewable feedstocks, SBI Energy has identified seven chemicals that are the key components of the BRC market. They are glycerin, lactic acid, succinic acid, polylactic acid, polyhydroxyalkanoates, 1,3-propanediol, and bioethylene. The recent global recession hit the chemical industry hard but now is experiencing a rebound with growth projected to increase at a steady pace through to 2015 for the market, building on a strong market for lactic acid and the development of bioethylene.

EOR Enhanced Oil Recovery Worldwide. SBI Energy forecasts the global market size for EOR to reach $1.3 trillion in 2015. Enhanced oil recovery (EOR) refers to a variety of oil producing methods, by which more oil is produced from oil wells than is typically produced by conventional oil production methods. Some of the more common EOR methods include steam, gas or chemical injection, which improve the viscosity of the oil, enabling the oil to flow more freely out of the well, and cause the oil to swell, adding pressure in the well cavity. EOR is also referred to as improved oil recovery and is considered a tertiary method of oil production.

Algae Biofuels Production Technologies Worldwide. Algae can be cultivated and harvested in support of a wide array of biofuel end products, including replacements for conventional gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and ethanol, as well as various other chemicals. Algae biofuels systems hold promise to enable rapid production of high quality, high throughput biofuels systems in support of carbon emissions reductions targets, and in support of clean fuels production. SBI Energy expects over a dozen demonstration- and commercial-scale algae cultivation projects in construction by 2015 in the United States, European Union, and Asia.

Global Substation Automation Products Market. The report covers a wide range of products and technologies used to automate substation processes and controls. Through interviews with substation industry experts and extensive secondary research, SBI Energy finds that from 2006-2010 the world has added approximately 2,200 new conventional substations per year, distributed disproportionately across the globe. That number is likely to slow as new construction projects continue to wane in favor of upgrades to established substations and other regions accelerate their movements to renewable energy sources.

Fuel Efficient Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) Technologies Worldwide. SBI Energy estimates that since 2006 the number of HEM and Home Area Network (HAN) systems deployed globally exceeds 1,840,000. Year-over-year growth was 35% between 2009 and 2010, the largest growth period since 2006 and steady annualized growth rates are expected through 2020 when the total HEMS installed base will exceed 5.5 million.

Opportunities for HEMS product manufacturers will be most fruitful in the sectors of integrated communications and in-home interfaces and decision support. Nearly 60% of the global spending is estimated to occur in these product groupings currently. As utilities in nations increasingly commit to HEMS deployment, immediate spending will be in areas that lay the foundation for a successful long-term infrastructure for in-home energy management and energy demand response. This foundation is typically focused on networking infrastructure, communication hardware and software, and consumer products that receive and monitor electricity use.

Global Solar Inverter Markets. The last decade witnessed an unprecedented boom in the Photovoltaic industry, leading to a rise in renewable energy generation the world over. This report on the PV component market has a detailed analysis on PV cells, modules, wafers, polysilicon and inverters. The main focus of the study is on PV inverters, which is currently valued between $5.5- 5.8 Billion and we estimate the market to touch $7.5 Billion in 2015. This market research report also provides information on historical developments in PV inverter markets as well as on growth, size, volume of business and general trends in technological developments.
