Survey of the European yarn fairs for autumn/winter 2018/19
The latest update in this series of reports summarises the trends which were on show at the European yarn fairs for the autumn/winter 2018/19 season. The author of the report visited Premi?re Vision Yarns and Pitti Immagine Filati where she interviewed exhibitors and found out first-hand which trends were proving to be the most popular. The atmosphere at the European yarn fairs for the autumn/winter 2018/19 season was positive overall. Indeed, knitwear continues to be a high fashion item, and has been providing European spinners with a buoyant market for their increasingly complex and sophisticated yarns. At the fairs, there was a strong focus on environmental sustainability, and several spinners presented yarns which incorporated recycled waste materials, or fibres which are considered to be environmentally sustainable. Natural fibres, including wool, cashmere and mohair, were prominent, and alpaca was especially important. These natural fibres were used in many creative combinations, and fancy yarns made using clever techniques and constructions were evident.
