Statistics: trends in glass fibre reinforced plastic production in Europe, 2018
European production of glass fibre reinforced plastics rose for the fifth year in succession in 2017 and production was at its third highest level on record. Geographically, Germany was the largest producer, followed by Eastern Europe. However, substantial production also took place in France, Ireland and the UK, Italy, and Portugal and Spain. The largest segment of the European glass fibre reinforced plastics industry in 2017 was that of sheet moulding compound (SMC) components and bulk moulding compound (BMC) components. Looking to the future, the glass fibre reinforced plastics industry in Europe is expected to continue to grow as new opportunities arise in existing markets and in new markets. This report includes statistical data and analysis of glass fibre reinforced plastics production in Europe, and provides a breakdown in terms of process or component, namely: BMC components; SMC components; resin transfer moulding (RTM); continuous processing; pipes and tanks; and glass mat reinforced plastics thermoplastics (GMT) and long fibre reinforced thermoplastics (LFT). The report also examines the production of glass fibre reinforced plastics by country or region and provides an outlook for the future.
