Abstracts

This 2016 edition of our flagship series of reports contains statistical data, information and insight into the textile and apparel industries in the EU. The report identifies important trends and includes information on: production of textiles and clothing; textile and clothing imports by supplying country; textile and clothing exports by destination country; and textile and clothing trade balances. It also analyses trade and production activities in each EU member state and provides an outlook. The report presents a wealth of information and is essential for anyone who is considering sourcing from, selling to or investing in the EU and its leading supplying countries and export markets. During 2015, textile production in the EU fell marginally while clothing production declined to its lowest level in several years. However, exports of textiles and clothing to countries outside the EU increased in value and volume. Meanwhile, imports of textiles and clothing into the EU declined in volume although they increased in value as the average price of imports rose sharply. In fact, there were increases in the average prices of clothing imports from 19 of the leading 20 clothing supplying countries, and increases in the average prices of textile imports from 18 of the leading 20 supplying countries.
