Will Canada Become The Next Oil Superpower?
Executive Summary
Will Canada become the next oil superpower? The mission of this research paper is to explain how Canada plans to become one of the world’s leading crude oil producers. I have utilized over 100 sources for this research paper which include: over 50 annual reports, company press releases, the World Bank, the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP), the International Energy Agency, (IEA), and articles from Reuters and Bloomberg. Several pages of the research paper will give an overview of Canada, and list 10 fundamental factors which will drive demand for Canada’s crude oil. Some of the major topics which will be described in the research paper include: Canada’s East Coast oil fields, Canada’s major refineries, Canada’s major upgrading facilities, and the various grades of crude oil found in Canada. The research paper will also detail Canada’s existing pipelines, which extend into the U.S., and several of the proposed pipelines, which would transport crude oil to Canada’s West Coast. Several pages of the research paper will be dedicated to the steps being taken by Canadian producers to reduce the environmental impact of producing in Canada’s vast oil sands. 36 pages of the research paper will highlight Canada’s major oil and gas producers, and Canada’s two major pipeline companies. The producers that will be discussed include: Canadian Natural Resources, Cenovus Energy, Encana, EOG Resources, Husky Energy, Imperial Oil, Suncor Energy, Syncrude Canada LTD., and Talisman Energy. The two major pipeline companies, in Canada, which will be highlighted are Enbridge and TransCanada. The research paper will culminate with a 3 page conclusion which will highlight several of my observations.
