The major performance apparel brands are casting a keen eye on the growing trend among the Facebook generation to monitor, log and post personal information. To capitalise on this trend, partnerships are being formed between apparel companies and technology companies to develop and produce innovative ways of tracking, recording and sharing athletic performance. The data4vision running cap has a panel in the brim displaying the wearer’s heart rate, distance covered, pace and running speed. Transcend snow sports goggles feature a head mounted display on which GPS (global positioning system) data can be viewed in real time. The Polar WearLink+ works with the Nike+ SportBand and the Nike+ iPod Sport Kit to enable users to run and train while monitoring their heart rates. The report examines these and other innovations from companies such as Adidas, Humotion, Nike, o-synce, Polar Electro and Recon Instruments. It also provides information on products currently on the market, and highlights some of the developments expected in the near future.
