Glyphosate China Monthly Report
Welcome to the June Issue of Glyphosate China Monthly Report.
This newsletter will help you stay ahead of the game in this fast-changing market with real-time reporting on the entire glyphosate industry chain, from raw materials to end consumption. It includes breaking news from China and abroad, the latest market data (price, import & export, production, consumption, operating rates, etc.), in-depth analysis of market trends, Chinese government policy, performance of leading Chinese producers, M&A, new technologies, and expert commentary from industry insiders.
Here is the Editor's Note for you to know about the June issue specifically:
The uptrend in ex-works price of glyphosate TC continued in June. Strong downstream demand and increased raw material prices still supported the price to go up. At the end of June, the ex-works price of glyphosate TC stabalised. Major glyphosate TC producers in China have raised their operating rates. As a result, the average operating rate in June reached nearly 70%, up around 5% MoM.
In terms of enterprises, on 9 June, Zhejiang Wynca issued an announcement stating that the company has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Huapont Life Sciences and Nutrichem. On 28 June, Nantong Jiangshan stated that it has completed the research on the synthesis process of glufosinate-ammonium and glufosinate-p. Sinochem International confirms to reshuffle assets with Syngenta and Yangnong Chemical
In terms of registration, glyphosate·glufosinate-ammonium compounds are popular among the agrochemical registration applicants, with the number of the new registration continuing to increase. According to ICAMA, the glufosinate-ammonium 10%·glyphosate 30% from Nantong Jiangshan, and the glyphosate 30%·glufosinate-ammonium 6% from Sichuan N·Foison Biotechnology Co., Ltd. have been approved for registration, and passed public review on 4 June.
As for policies, it's worth noting that as hot weather approaches in June, there have been strengthened efforts across China to ensure safety and prevent accidents especially in the wake of the fatal explosion in Shiyan City, Hubei Province. Currently, the efforts are mainly reflected in the restrictions on the transport of HAZMAT. At the same time, provinces like Fujian, Hubei, and Jiangxi have recently issued emergency notices on work safety, requiring major safety inspections of the key areas such as chemical industries.

China is the world’s largest producer of glyphosate, with 80% of the glyphosate produced in China being exported. Glyphosate is also still by far the most popular herbicide among Chinese farmers.
However, the industry is facing a number of serious long-term challenges. Increasing crop resistance threatens to make glyphosate less attractive to farmers, while research linking the product to cancer could lead to several key export markets banning the product altogether. Meanwhile, Chinese producers are struggling to comply with tough new environmental regulations and cope with severe industry overcapacity.
