Ticona Ending PBT Production at North Carolina Plant

07 Aug 2009 • by Natalie Aster

Engineering resins maker Ticona will end production of polybutylene terephthalate and other specialty polyesters at its Shelby, North Carolina plant by 1 October, with the loss of about 100 jobs.

The move is the result of a decline in demand for the plant’s products and because of poor market conditions, Ticona officials said. The compounding work done at Shelby will be moved to the company’s site in Florence, Kentucky.

Production of Vectra-brand liquid crystal polymer in Shelby will not be affected and the plant will continue to employ about 50 staff.
