Chinese Secondary Battery Marketplace Dominated by BYD, Says SNE Research in Its Report Available at MarketPublishers.com

01 Nov 2016 • by Natalie Aster

LONDON – China has plans to distribute 5 million (mln) electric vehicles (EVs) by 2020. As of 2015, this country produced 370,000 such vehicles and this figure is expected to amount to 700,000 in 2017. Growth in the EVs market encourages growth of the local market for lithium ion secondary batteries. In 2015, the supply volume almost reached 20 GWh and over 40 GWh are set to be supplied as secondary batteries for the vehicles.

BYD dominates the marketplace in terms of share. This producer had shipments of around 3.6 GWh in 2015. This company can boast rapid growth.

Established as a secondary battery business, it has captured shares in other industries like the electric vehicle industry. The company is expected to produce more than 21.8 GWh in 2018.

The producer also enjoys interest from overseas companies. For instance, a 9% share in it belongs to Berkshire Hathaway.
