Taiwan Small Cell Industry Reviewed by MIC in New Cutting-edge Study Published at MarketPublishers.com

12 Feb 2016 • by Natalie Aster

LONDON – In the telecommunications world, a femtocell is a small, low-power mobile base station that is typically designed for interior use in a small business or home. The advantages of femtocells comprise the enhanced mobile signal coverage and voice quality. Femtocells are able to support 2G/3G/4G signals either simultaneously or separately. When connecting to broadband devices like DSL, femtocells are capable of redirecting mobile data stream back to a telecom carrier’s network. Femtocells usually support 4 to 8 active mobile phones in residential surroundings and 8 to 16 active mobile phones in an enterprise environment. The transmission power of femtocells is small with 20mW maximum power, covering a radius of 5 to 20 meters.

In volume terms, the small cell shipments reached 5.2 million units globally in 2015, up 16% YoY, owing to top telecom carriers' ongoing investments. The demand for small cells is poised to keep on growing throughout 2016 as leading wireless providers have acknowledged the significance of small cells in network densification,  LTE-Advanced standards specifications  (or LTE-Advanced Pro), or even 5G. Taiwan’s small cell shipments are forecast to amount to around 1.4 million units in H1 2016, roughly staying flat as against the same period of the previous year.
