Shanghai City Review
Shanghai may be regarded as China's most advanced city. Its economy is heavily orientated towards services, and growth in wage rates poses challenges to the competitiveness of many manufacturing industries in the city (particularly wage-sensitive textiles and heavy equipment). Rapid growth of the city's prosperity raised income inequality challenges; Shanghai is one of the most unequal cities in China. With a population of almost 24 million, it is also the fifth largest city globally.
