Rotterdam relies heavily on the activities of its seaport, Europe's key transportation hub. Unfortunately, even the record performance of Rotterdam port did not provide enough jobs, as over 2007-2012 the city faced decreasing household income and growing unemployment. However, Rotterdam developed an agenda to revive its economic growth, with plans to further expand its seaport, reduce its carbon emissions, and boost the city's attractiveness by renovating neglected neighbourhoods.
