Oil-dependent Riyadh derives the largest share (43%) of its GVA from the manufacturing and mining sector. The oil industry is an important factor in boosting the city's labour productivity (or GVA per employee) ahead of many Middle East metropolises, including Kuwait, Dubai, Tehran and Jerusalem. Riyadh's lifestyle is very rigid. Strict gender segregation rules limit entertainment options and severely constrain women's participation in the city's public life.
