Among key Brazilian cities, Rio de Janeiro's tertiary sector is the largest (82% of the city's GVA in 2012). The city benefits from its port, third largest by cargo volume in the country, and flows of international visitors. Research and development activities are also concentrated in Rio de Janeiro. The city has a relatively high share of working age population, partly due to continuing immigration from rural areas in Brazil.
