Kolkata City Review
A long-lasting economic laggard among Indian cities, Kolkata, is hoping for a positive transformation. In 2012 the city still had the lowest GVA per employee and average disposable household income compared with Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. Yet GVA per employee in Kolkata rose by 44% over 2007-2012, second only to the country's capital. Kolkata is capitalising on its affordable and educated labour as well as a new government to breathe new life into its economic and social environments.
