VIETNAM LOGISTICS INDUSTRY

Logistics is considered as an 'intermediate character' to bring goods from production facilities to consumers. Logistics plays an important role in optimizing the circulation cycle of production and business from input of raw materials, accessories, ... to the final product to customers. Therefore, developing the Logistics industry effectively will increase the competitiveness of a country in the world market.

Vietnam ranked 64 out of 160 countries and was in the middle of ASEAN as ranked LPI index. The logistics industry in Vietnam has an increasing scale but has not fully exploited the potential of the industry while Vietnamese enterprises only meet less than one fourth of logistics demand.

Transportation activities occupied the largest proportion in the structure of the entire logistics industry. In 2018, freight transport reached 1,634.7 million tons and 306.4 billion tons.km of which domestic transport accounted for 97.95% of transport. Road transport contributed the largest proportion of revenue in the industry. Revenue from warehousing and loading and unloading activities tended to increase in the period of 2010 - 2017 with CAGR of 18.3% and 11.8% respectively.

Vietnam logistics industry is now facing many challenges such as challenges of competition risks, service quality, the application of information technology and e-commerce, ..

In addition, logistics always takes risks from internal and external factors such as risks in the transportation process, outsourcing distribution, human resource management, suppliers, ..

VIRAC forecasts that from 2018 to 2023, the road will continue to maintain a low growth rate and still be the largest mode of transport and the port industry will continue to grow well.
