Rapid development of global container transportation promotes the prosperity of container manufacturing industry, which mainly encompasses the customized manufacturing of containers such as dry cargo containers, refrigerated containers and tank containers. The production volume of standard dry cargo containers in China accounts for 90% of the global production volume. China ranks the first in the production volume of containers after 1993 and becomes the largest manufacturing and sales center for containers in the world.

China presently possesses remarkable capacity of design, manufacturing, installation and commissioning of container production lines along with increasing capability to design and develop new products and technologies.

There are more than 80 container manufacturers located in coastal areas such as South China, East China and North China, of which 90% are foreign-funded enterprises. Customized services are provided to satisfy domestic and overseas customers.

The supply and demand of container shipping services are significantly influenced by the development of Chinese economy. China is the most important container base in the world with the fastest-growing shipping companies in terms of supply. There are 11 ports with the container throughput capacity of over 5 million TEU in China in 2013, including the top 10 coastal ports and Suzhou Port. The container throughput capacity of Yingkou Port reached 5 million TEU for the first time. There are 7 ports with the throughput capacity of over 10 million TEU among the top 10 ports in China, including Shanghai Port, Shenzhen Port, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, Qingdao Port, Guangzhou Port, Tianjin Port and Dalian Port. The number was 6 in 2012. The container throughput capacity of Dalian Port reached 10.015 million TEU for the first time in 2013. Shanghai Port remained the busiest port in the world with the throughput capacity of 33.617 million TEU in 2013. China leads in global industry chain of containers with the fastest-growing container ports.

The global production volume of containers declined to approximately 2.7 million TEU in 2012-2013 under the influence of major economies slowing down. The U.S. economy exhibited a steady recovery while demand for containers in major European countries rebounded in the first quarter of 2014. Demand for equipment replacement recovered with time after depression in the industry. The global economy is expected to improve in 2014-2015. Therefore, the container manufacturing industry will steadily develop with the increasing demand in container transportation industry.
