5G mmWave antennas are radio frequency radiation and beamforming units targeting the high-frequency bands of 5G New Radio (NR). They typically operate in the millimeter-wave frequency bands defined by 3GPP and are used to achieve high-bandwidth, narrow-beam, and multi-user MIMO connections at the terminal and base station sides. On the terminal side, Qualcomm's QTM series modules (such as QTM545 and QTM565) are known as fifth-generation 5G millimeter-wave antenna modules. They integrate phased arrays, transceiver front-ends, and power management into a compact package, providing extended millimeter-wave band support and power optimization for mobile terminals such as smartphones.
From a product classification perspective, the first category is terminal-side packaged antenna modules, including AiP or antenna-integrated modules used in mobile phones, portable terminals, and CPEs. This category is provided by Qualcomm, pSemi, Murata, and manufacturers responsible for packaging and module integration, such as USI and advanced packaging companies. The second category is network-side phased array panels and waveguide antenna solutions. For example, Gapwaves provides high-efficiency millimeter-wave phased array platforms for 5G base stations, indoor solutions, and fixed wireless access terminals. Its proprietary waveguide technology emphasizes low loss, high integration, and good heat dissipation. The third category is external and custom millimeter-wave antennas and subsystems.
