The company operates in three segments: Newsprint, Magazine Paper, and Energy

Newsprint

The Newsprint Segment encompasses production and sale of paper qualities which, measured in grams per square meter, would normally be in the range 40-57 g/m2. These paper qualities are used in newspapers, inserts and advertising materials. The company has an annual production capacity of newsprint of 3 723 000 tonnes as of December 31, 2008.

Magazine Paper

The Magazine Paper Segment encompasses production and sale of the paper qualities super calendered (SC), machine finished coated (MFC) and lightweight coated (LWC). These paper qualities are used in magazines, catalogues and advertising materials. The company has an annual production capacity of magazine paper of 1 465 000 tonnes as of December 31, 2008.

Energy

The Energy Segment includes purchase and sale of energy to the Norwegian entities in the company, sale of excess energy in the spot market and the fair value of certain energy contracts and embedded derivatives in energy contracts.

PRODUCTS

Norcote: Norcote is a lightweight coated (LWC) paper is produced in various variants with standard and improved brightness levels, gloss or matt finish and a selection of basis weights for printing magazines, catalogues, promotion materials and other commercial literature. Norcote is used in magazines, catalogues, supplements, direct mail, and inserts/flyers.

Directory paper: Directory paper is produced in Australasia and South America. This is a lightweight paper used for telephone directories and catalogues.

Norsc: The company's SC (super calandered) paper is an uncoated publication paper suitable for magazines, catalogues and advertising material. It produces an SC paper designed for either rotogravure or heat set Web offset printing. This is used in magazines, catalogues, inserts/flyers, direct mail, and supplements.

Norbright, Norstar, and NorX: This product range embraces paper grades suited for both cold set and heat set Web offset printing. The feel and appearance of these products are different from newsprint in terms of brightness and bulk. This product range is used in supplements, inserts/flyers, direct mail, newspapers, freesheets, directories, magazines, and books.
