Midstream, OEMs and Tier-1/automation software providers integrate platoon control (gap policy, cooperative braking, string stability), comms/security, vehicle calibration and compliance, and cloud fleet orchestration (pairing, ops policy, OTA, data loop). Downstream buyers are long-haul fleets; value capture hinges on regulation/road permissions and scale.

Heavy-duty truck platooning systems enable two or more trucks to travel in a tightly coordinated convoy using V2V communications and cooperative longitudinal control, with the goal of reducing aerodynamic drag and fuel consumption while improving smoothness and consistency at fleet scale. The most common deployment pathway today is Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control, where V2V data complements forward sensing to coordinate acceleration, deceleration, and braking with more consistent spacing; drivers typically remain responsible for steering and lane keeping, while the system focuses on longitudinal automation and platoon coordination. Industry standardization is maturing as well, with SAE publishing performance requirements for CACC and platooning to align capability targets and test methodologies.
