The market for coronary stents is one of the fastest growing markets in the medical devices industry. After registering a remarkable growth from 2002 to 2006, the revenues from global coronary stents market declined thereafter. Due to the appeal for less invasive percutaneous coronary intervention procedures and advances in technology, the global coronary stents market is forecasted to grow at a CAGR of 3.7%.

Coronary artery disease is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. The treatment of coronary artery disease includes alternative treatment methodologies, that is, coronary artery bypass grafting or angioplasty (percutaneous coronary intervention) with or without stenting. The percutaneous coronary intervention procedures involving drug-eluting stents are being increasingly used to treat complex coronary artery diseases with an almost 65% penetration rate in 2009.

In the global coronary stent market, the US market for drug eluting stents is the largest market followed by Japan and China, which are also the largest markets in Asia Pacific. Collectively, the US and Japan accounted for more than half of the global drug eluting stents market in 2009. The leading coronary stent manufacturers are Boston Scientific, Johnson & Johnson/Cordis, Abbott Labs and Medtronic.

Due to the growing demand for minimally invasive procedures and the introduction of drug-eluting stents, there has been a rapid increase in the coronary stents market in the past few years. The growth in the market is being primarily driven by the increase in the elderly population, obesity rates, advances in technology, such as the emergence of bio absorbable stents and other new generation stents.

The report analyzes the coronary stent market from two perspectives. One is from the point of products, i.e., BMS and DES market size and growth rate and second is the size of the main regional stents market, like, the US, China, and Japan. It also discusses the major factors driving the market along with the new developments in the market.

By combining SPSS Inc.’s data integration and analysis capabilities with our relevant findings, we have predicted the future growth of the industry. We employed various significant variables that have an impact on this industry and created regression models with SPSS Base to determine the future direction of the industry. Before deploying the regression model, the relationship between several independent or predictor variables and the dependent variable was analyzed using standard SPSS output, including charts, tables and tests.
