Bipolar Plates are one of the core components of the fuel cells, which accounts for a large portion of the quality and cost of the battery pack. It is responsible for the functions of uniform distribution of reaction gas, conduction of current, and series of single cells. In order to meet these functional requirements, the ideal bipolar plate should have high thermal/electrical conductivity, corrosion resistance, low density, good mechanical properties, low cost, and easy processing. However, the current bipolar plates have problems such as poor corrosion resistance and conductivity, high production costs and short lifespan. Realizing the reasonable matching of the conductivity and corrosion resistance of the bipolar plate material, that is, achieving high corrosion resistance under the premise of ensuring reasonable conductivity, ensuring the service life of the entire system, is one of the key steps in the commercialization of fuel cells.

Traditionally, the most commonly used BP material is graphite, both natural as well as synthetic, because it has excellent chemical stability to survive the fuel cell environ-ment. It also has very low resistivity, resulting in highest electro chemical power output. However, it is fraught with problems of high cost, low mechanical strength and the need for machining to form the ?ow channels.

In a fuel cell, the graphite bipolar plate is a crucial component within the fuel cell stack. It performs several vital functions: conducting electrons between adjacent cells, distributing hydrogen fuel and air (or oxygen) to the electrodes through flow channels etched into its surface, and separating the individual cells to prevent gas crossover. Graphite, often in composite form, is chosen for its good electrical conductivity, corrosion resistance in the fuel cell environment, and relatively low cost.
