About UK Coal plc

UK Coal Plc. (the company) is a coal mining company in Europe. It produces nearly 20 million tonnes of coal a year, 16 million from its deep mines and 4 million tonnes from surface mines, at 30 locations throughout the United Kingdom, and almost as many again on contract or in the supply of goods and services.

The company manufactures smokeless fuels at its Monckton plant near Barnsley for domestic and industrial consumption, produces a wide range of coals for markets ranging from power stations to hospitals, and the Lionheart range of house coal for domestic users.

With its headquarters at Harworth, near Doncaster, South Yorkshire, UK COAL operates 11 collieries in the Midlands, Yorkshire and the North East, and a similar number of surface mining sites.

Strategic Alliances

UK Coal plc and Peel Energy, part of the Peel Group, in November 2008, announced that they have signed a Collaboration Agreement which provides a framework to identify, assess and potentially develop wind farms on sites within UK COAL's land portfolio.
