Products

The company manufactures three main grades of paper: coated groundwood paper, coated freesheet paper and supercalendered paper. The company also produces Northern Bleached Hardwood Kraft (NBHK) pulp. It also manufactures rotogravure coated paper in North America.

Coated groundwood paper: Coated groundwood paper includes a fiber component produced through a mechanical pulping process. The use of such fiber results in a bulkier and opaque paper that is suited for applications where lighter weights and/or higher stiffness are required, such as catalogs and magazines. In addition to mechanical pulp, coated groundwood paper typically includes a kraft pulp component to improve brightness and print quality.

Coated freesheet paper: Coated freesheet paper is made from bleached kraft pulp, which is produced using a chemical process to break apart wood fibers and dissolve impurities, such as lignin. Its coated freesheet papers are used principally for annual reports, brochures, and magazine covers.

Supercalendered paper: Supercalendered paper consists of groundwood fibers. Supercalendered papers are primarily used for retail inserts.

Pulp: The company produces and sells NBHK pulp. NBHK pulp is produced through the chemical kraft process using hardwoods. Kraft pulp is used to manufacture printing and writing paper grades and tissue products.

Other products: The company also offers recycled paper to help meet specific customer requirements. Additionally, it offers customized product solutions for strategic accounts by producing paper grades with customer-specified weight, brightness and pulp mix characteristics, providing customers with cost benefits and/or brand differentiation. It also offers uncoated printing papers and coated and uncoated flexible packaging papers.

The company sells and markets its products to approximately 100 customers which comprise approximately 670 end-user accounts. It serves the catalog, magazine, insert, and commercial printing markets. The company's major customer is International Paper Company. Other key customers include magazine publishers, such as Conde Nast Publications, Inc., Hearst Corporation, National Geographic Society, and Time Inc.; catalog producers, such as Avon Products, Inc. and Sears Holding Corporation; commercial printers, such as Quad/Graphics, Inc., and RR Donnelley & Sons Company; and paper merchants and brokers, such as A.T. Clayton & Co., Unisource Worldwide, Inc., and Clifford Paper, Inc.
