AO Mosenergo provides consumers with electric and thermal energy in the Russian Federation. The company's installed electrical capacity is 11.1 thousand MW, and installed thermal capacity is 34.3 thousand Gcal/h (39.9 thousand MW). The company, in December 2008, has launched a new 450-megawatt (MW) gas-vapor power unit at its TETs-27 thermal power plant in northern Moscow.

The company’s main businesses are electric energy and power generation and supply to the wholesale market, heat generation, sales of heat for ultimate consumers of Moscow and the Moscow Region. MOSENERGO is one of the suppliers of the wholesale market of electric energy and power in Russia. MOSENERGO is an interconnected generating capacity complex.

The company incorporates 33 branches, among which are 17 power plants generating energy and power, having a common operation mode and relying on a shared capacity reserve and a centralized operational and dispatching control system. Along with the power plants, the power utility's operation is supported by 16 branches engaged in production, designing,
maintenance, setup and other operations.

Production Facilities: The generation base of MOSENERGO consists of 17 power plants with 104 cogeneration turbines, 7 gas-turbine units, 1 combined cycle power unit (CCPU) and 2 expansion generating units, 117 power boilers and 114 peak-load boilers. All power plants of the company are combined heat and power plants, i.e. they perform co-generation of two kinds of energy, electric and thermal, using one and the same equipment – cogeneration turbines.

Electric Energy and Power Generation: MOSENERGO as generating company performs generation and delivery of electric energy and power to the Wholesale market.

Heat Generation: By its heating capacity, MOSENERGO is the world's main power system and the principal supplier of heat to the Moscow area consumers. Heat is produced by bleeding steam and peak-load boilers. MOSENERGO is a heat-generating company whose operation results hugely depend on the ambient air temperature.


The company, in the electrical power market in Moscow region, competes with Kashirskaya LAPS-4; Shaturskaya LAPS-5; and Zagorsk PSP. The principal competitor of the company on the heat power market is OAO ‘Moscow Integrated Energy Company’.
