Solvents. In 2010 Butyl Acetate Market Indicates Recovery

23 Jun 2010 • by Natalie Aster

Each group of Solvents has a definite ability to solve a particular kind of synthetic, artificial and natural film-forming product. One-component solvents are used for dissolving different types of polycondensing film-forming products and natural resins. Multicomponent solvents are used primarily when handling cellulose ester, polymerizing film-forming products.

The most widespread Solvents groups are Hydrocarbons – they are widely used as Solvents for oils, fats, simple cellulose esters, bitum and as diluents for nitrocellulose materials – here belong:

  • aromatic hydrocarbons: benzene, toluene, xylene, solvent,
  • petroleum solvents: white spirit (is widely used in paint-and-varnish industry), gasoline, ligroin,
  • chlorine-containing solvents: methylenechloride, trichloroethylene, tetrachloroethylene,
  • alcohols: aliphatic – methyl, ethyl, butyl; cyclic - cyclohexanol, phenylcarbinol (benzyl), mathylcyclohexanol; diatomic – glycol,
  • ketones and esters
  • furan solvents, etc.
  • Solvents market should be studied by a breakdown into each particular solvent type. Thus, Butyl Acetate and Ethyl Acetate markets are niche markets of Chemical products, Butyl Acetate being the major component for automotive paints and coatings manufacturing, Ethyl Acetate – for nail polish and typographic paints and coatings. In 2009 Butyl Acetate and Ethyl Acetate prices rose by about 20%.

Butyl Acetate market will show recovery in the second part of 2010 which will be attributed to a high growth rate of the Chinese market, and recovery on the USA real estate market. Production capacities of the Asian Butyl Acetate manufacturers will presumably increase by 50% in 2010 – in 2009 the increase indicated 30-50% on average.

According to the US International Trade Commission, in January 2010 Butyl Acetate export volumes in the USA made up 2 876 tons – it is a decrease by 36% of the index of the same month in 2009.
