World Demand for Acetone to Increase at the Average of 4,2 – 5,3% According to Research Recently Released by Merchant Research & Consulting, Ltd.
15 Jan 2010 • by Natalie Aster
World market for Acetone is expected to grow in the coming years. It largely depends on the situation with its derivatives markets: BPA and MMA.
Global growth at 6-8% a year is predicted for BPA market in 2010. Moreover, it is expected that BPA market will surpass MMA as the largest acetone derivative.
In 2010 MMA global growth will reach 5% a year. However, some of the new MMA capacity, coming onto the world market, is made from non-acetone processes. Thus, much of methyl methacrylate will not transform to future acetone demand.
Thus, acetone market will increase at the average of 4.2-5.3% a year in 2010-2015 with BPA becoming main application area.
World demand for Acetone rose at average of 3,9% during 2002-2009. In 2010 Acetone demand, used in the manufacture of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and bisphenol A (BPA), will remain at the average level.
Acetone is also added to solvent applications largely used in pharmaceuticals manufacturing, as well as takes part in production of a number of chemical intermediates, such as Methyl Isobutyl Ketone, Isophorone and Diacetone Alcohol / Hexylene Glycol.
