21 Oct 2010 • by Natalie Aster

After the European Union officially approved the use of Tetrabromobisphenol-A as a safe flame retardant for circuit board and plastics with no significant health effects of concern, Tetrabromobisphenol-A (TBBA, TBBPA) market became more active again and the demand increased apparently.

Producers are enhancing their bromine manufacturing capacity, in particular the productive efficiency for Tetrabromobisphenol A. The prices for TBBPA rose by 10%.

Due to a high volume of printed wiring boards and manufactured electronics components, Asia remains the region with the highest demand for TBBPA.

Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) is commonly used in plastic applications, in circuit boards for electronics, as well as acrylonitrile butadiene styrene. TBBPA is one of the most widely used brominated flame retardants in the world. It is used extensively to provide flame retardancy for styrenic thermoplastics and for some thermoset resins.
