Product Name:Fucoxanthin
Synonyms:
  • Fucoxanthol
CAS#:3351-86-8
Formula:C42H58O6
Molecular Weight:658.91

Fucoxanthin (О±-carotene) is a type of non-provitamin A carotenoid and it belongs to xanthophylls. Its chemical formula is C42H58O6. Fucoxanthin has the allene structure and epoxide and hydroxyl groups. It is found naturally in edible brown seaweeds; though small amounts of this marine carotenoid can also be obtained from red and green algae.

The production of fucoxanthin is difficult for a score of reasons. Firstly, its content in raw material is very low (only 50-100 ppm). Secondly, being a powerful antioxidant, the product is easily decomposed during production process. In addition, one of the most essential problems during fucoxanthin production is how to reduce the content of heavy metal and arsenic salt which are absorbed by the seaweeds.

Some metabolic and nutritional studies with rats and mice indicate that fucoxanthin appears to target a protein called UCP1 that increases the rate at which abdominal fat (white adipose tissue) is burned. However, more research is required to determine whether fucoxanthin will work in the same way in humans.

Animal studies also show that fucoxanthin decreases insulin and blood glucose levels. It has been hypothesized that fucoxanthin's anti-diabetes effect may be because fucoxanthin seems to promote the formation of DHA (the omega-3 fatty acid found fatty fish such as salmon). DHA is thought to increase insulin sensitivity, improve triglycerides and reduce LDL ("bad") cholesterol.

Preliminary research in test tubes suggests that fucoxanthin may have anti-tumor effects. Anyway, it's far too early for fucoxanthin to be used as a complementary treatment for cancer.

Besides, fucoxanthin has a very strong antioxidation effect, prevens vascularization, as well as combats inflammations.

Fucoxanthin market is covered in the study Fucoxanthin (CAS 3351-86-8) Market Research Report 2023. The report encompasses proper description of the product, unveils application areas, and briefly summarizes patents in the sphere. It overlooks fucoxanthin market situation, names manufacturers, suppliers as well as users. The report also provides current fucoxanthin prices in the market.
