PetroquimicaSuape Adopts Most Modern Technology for PTA Plant

The Petrochemical Company of Pernambuco (PetroquimicaSuape) has concluded, in the 27th of February, the negotiations to purchase the use of technology and equipment of the polymers and polyester filament production unit, with TMT (through the Japanese trading company Sojitz) and Lurgi Zimmer, worth $ 182.1 million, being U.S. $ 142.3 million for the TMT and U.S. $ 39.8 million of Lurgi Zimmer.

The Japanese company TMT will manufacture the machinery for spinning and texturing and the German company Lurgi Zimmer will provide the equipment for polymerization. Sixty-Four machines will be purchased for the production of textured yarn (DTY), sixteen for the POY, two for FDY, and one for the polymerization process. The delivery of the first items is expected for October 2009.

Similarly to the PTA plant, PetroquimicaSuape has adopted the same option criterion for the most modern technology in the world for the production of polymers and filaments of polyester.

The Petrochemical Complex of Suape, composed by the units of PTA, PET resin and yarns of polyester, is included amongst the priority projects of the Strategic Plan of Petrobrás and will be in operation in the second half of 2010. The total investment in the venture is $ 4 billion.

The PTA unity has concluded the earthworks in December 2008 and, in January 2009 the process of pilling foundations and construction of work site was initiated, as well as the earthworks for the plants of PET and polyester yarns.
