The present economic situation influences world fertilizer market. The changes may occur in agricultural product consumption what will change fertilizers demand as well. But Nitrogen fertilizers should not be as greatly affected.
The highest growth in the demand for urea will be demonstrated by such regions as Africa (4.8%), Western Asia (4.4%), South Asia (4%), Latin America (3.7%).
The demand for urea in East Asia and South-east Asia will grow by 3.2% a year (these regions will account for 38% of global demand).
Nearly 40 new plants planned to come on-stream from 2009 and 2011. Including projects deemed highly probable, around 21m tonnes/year of new capacity could be added between 2009 and 2011. Revamping and debottlenecking programmes will add another 5m tonnes/year of capacity, lifting the total world urea capacity to 192m tonnes/year in 2011.
