Bhutan Telecom Sector Continues to Follow Stable Development Path, States BuddeComm in Its Topical Report Available at MarketPublishers.com

07 Sep 2017 • by Natalie Aster

LONDON – Bhutan’s telecom sector has continued to follow a stable development trajectory.

There has been a gradual decline in fixed line telephone services in the country as the mobile segment keeps on expanding. Bhutan had been isolated from the rest of the world for long, and specifically with respect to its telecommunications. Its mountainous scenery made it especially hard to construct the requisite telecoms infrastructure.

The penetration of fixed broadband subscriptions in the country is seeing a moderate increase from a very comparatively small base. The fixed broadband market is poised for moderate growth going forward till 2022. The limited and decreasing number of fixed lines across the country is hindering the growth of the sector.

The national mobile market has shown robust growth during the past several years, however, the growth pace has dropped during the past few years as the mobile marketplace starts to mature. More sluggish and descending growth is anticipated to continue through to 2022 as the mobile subscriber sector further matures.

B-Mobile is the dominant mobile operator domestically. TashiCell is its only competitor, and has been closing the gap over the last few years. Other important market players include DrukNet, Tashi InfoComm, Samden Tech, Airtel, Bhutan Telecom, Ericsson, and Reliance.

Topical research report “Bhutan - Telecoms, Mobile, Broadband and Digital Economy - Statistics and Analyses” elaborated by BuddeComm offers a detailed assessment of the market for telecommunications on a national level.

An all-round look at the digital economy is included.
