China Sulfur Dioxide Output to Reach 170 Thousand Tonnes by 2020, Forecasts ASKCI Consulting in Its Report Available at MarketPublishers.com

03 Mar 2017 • by Natalie Aster

LONDON – Over the recent past, China has implemented a number of environment protection initiatives pertaining to the domestic sulfur dioxide industry. Liquid sulfur dioxide, as a sulfur product, has been adversely affected and demonstrated a decreasing trend. As of 2015, the output of liquid sulfur dioxide stood at approximately 151 thousand tonnes, dropping 50% as against the output seen in 2011. The 13th five year is expected to see the scheduled transfer and upgrading of liquid sulfur dioxide producers. The output is forecast to amount to close to 170 thousand tonnes by 2020.

The downstream industries are closely related with situation in the national economy. With rapid development of the country’s economy over the last decade, the demand for sulfur acid has been increasing at a fast pace. Through to 2015, the capacity of sulfur acid in China was estimated at 130 million tonnes. Still, with domestic economy decelerating, sulfur acid marches into a difficult phase.

To date, the supply has developed over the demand for low-end sulfur products. Several high-end sulfur acid products are required to be imported from other regions. The production of high-end sulfur acid is likely to be one of the major development lines in China’s sulfur acid industry.
