Poland Shows Good Performance in Eastern Europe Dairy Market, States Euromonitor in Its Report Available at MarketPublishers.com

06 Feb 2017 • by Natalie Aster

LONDON – Eastern Europe, being the 2nd smallest dairy region globally, is affected by a decline in sales in the key Russian market, political tensions inhibiting trade and hence dairy products’ availability. However, Poland is exhibiting a robust performance and appears to be predominantly unimpaired by the struggles of its border countries. The upsurge in the sales of dairy is being driven by the cheese, drinking milk products and sour milk drinks categories.

Russia is the biggest market in the region, pestering around 50% of the total sales in the region as of 2016. The country’s trade embargo with the Western countries has imposed serious restrictions on dairy growth, as the dairy product import ban has indicated that a host of products are not available for customers or, when available, are high-priced. The dairy sales in Russia decreased by USD 1 billion during 2014-2016.

In most markets, the dominant companies are migrating towards an even more leading position, by force of smaller market players. Private label, where exists, gains traction, as the quality of retailers lower priced offerings keeps on increasing and with it the representation of private label.
