USA Leads mPOS Marketplace, States Timetric in Its Report Available at MarketPublishers.com

04 Jul 2016 • by Natalie Aster

LONDON – mPOS used to be mainly reliant on simple magnetic stripe cards readers before EMV standards were implemented. Some countries continue to use mPOS which offer a significant cost advantage if compared to conventional POS. EMV mPOS devices are much more expensive than mag-stripe dingles. Their costs are up to ten times higher than the ones of the dongles. That is why low-income merchants rarely choose them for their operations.

mPOS can be useful to retailers since they enable their owners to better adapt to seasonal peaks given their flexibility in terms of deployment and activation of terminals if compared to conventional POS.

Customisation of mPOS seems to be not very appealing to large merchants since the latter ones can afford developing tailored solutions relying on conventional POS.

Currently, the US holds the largest share of the global mPOS marketplace in terms of the number of active devices and transaction value.
