LONDON – Globally, the laboratory automation market is projected to register over 6% CAGR through to 2021. Segment-wise, clinical lab automation comprises the maximum share of the world lab automation market. The rising ageing population in tandem with their soaring health problems, growing prevalence of contagious diseases, increasing number of clinical trials and lab automation technology advances will likely stimulate the lab automation market growth in the foreseeable future. Nevertheless, the low risk taking capacity of small and medium-sized laboratories where automation is not a focal area may hinder the market’s expansion and development.

The USA comprises the single largest clinical lab automation market, with Europe coming second. In terms of applications, work station grabbed the largest share of the clinical lab automation marketplace. Laboratory information management system (LIMS) is the 2nd major application.

The USA also accounts for the maximum share of the drug discovery lab automation, followed by Europe.  The plate reader segment grabbed the lion’s share of the market for drug discovery lab automation, with automated liquid handling system following after.
