04 May 2016 • by Natalie Aster

LONDON – In 2016, the Italian telecommunications industry is anticipated to generate revenues of around USD 26.6 billion (EUR 25.3 billion). Through 2020, the country’s telecom service revenue is likely to register a 2.1% CAGR, spurred by remarkable increase in such sectors as fixed VoIP, mobile data, pay-TV and fixed broadband.

Mobile data sector is expected to see the highest CAGR of 8.1% from 2016 to 2020. Mobile data is expected to become a significant driver behind growth in the mobile sector. Revenues generated by the mobile sector will probably account for a share of almost 57% of the domestic telecom industry revenues in 2020. The fixed broadband sector is expected to see a CAGR of 7.4% in the next 5 years.

Nowadays, the Italian operators make emphasis on increase in broadband penetration as well as mobile data in order to offset the decrease in traditional fixed and also mobile voice and messaging services. Going forward, the domestic operators should concentrate on mobile/fixed convergence to retain clients and, at the same time, raise spend per household. Rising investments by local operators in high-speed networks development will open a range of lucrative opportunities for network and equipment vendors in Italy. Furthermore, constantly increasing consolidation in the country’s telecom market is expected to intensify competition, thus, unlocking revenue streams for operators.
