Nigeria Telecom Market Scenario Investigated by Pyramid Research in Its Topical Report Recently Published at MarketPublishers.com

07 Apr 2016 • by Natalie Aster

LONDON – In 2015, revenues generated by the telecom industry in Nigeria reached USD 7.9 billion, registering a 17% YoY decrease. However, the decline in the overall country’s market is explained by devaluation of the Nigeria naira. In local currency, revenues of the Nigerian telecom industry witnessed a 2.1% YoY increase in 2015 and amounted to NGN 1.5 trillion.

In 2015, the mobile voice services segment contributed the largest share (70%) to the total revenues of the domestic telecom industry. However, in the short-term perspective, the Nigerian telecom industry is likely to post a 2.0% CAGR in dollar terms (and an 8.3% CAGR in local currency terms), and by 2020 is predicted to reach USD 8.7 billion (and NGN 2.3 trillion in local currency). The country’s market growth is anticipated to be driven primarily by remarkable growth in mobile data revenue, which is expected to see a 12.6% CAGR in the next 5 years and in 2020 will likely come to USD 3.1 billion and will command a 35.5% share of the Nigerian telecom industry.

MTN Nigeria, the dominant company in the Nigerian telecom market, is likely to maintain its leading position in terms of mobile subscriptions and revenues through 2020. Though, due to a strong price competition, intensifying pressure from other operators and escalating significant network expansion, the market share of MTN Nigeria is forecast to decrease.
