LONDON – The high net worth individual (HNWI) population in the USA surged by 2.8% in 2014, with their combined wealth standing at USD 20.5 trillion. The country’s HNWIs held USD 4.9 trillion (or 23.7%) of their wealth outside their native country. Over the forecast period, the number the HNWIs is projected to increase by 8.6% to reach 6,038,381 in 2019; the wealth of these individuals is poised to surge by 27.7% to amount to USD 27.7 trillion.
The US HNWIs kept the biggest portion (41.2%) of their foreign assets in Europe in 2014. In the same year, North America, APAC, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa respectively accounted for 26.3%, 17.7%, 8.8%, 3% and 2.9% of the HNWIs’ total foreign assets. HNWIs are set to reduce their investment in Europe in the upcoming years, resulting in 33.8% of HNWIs’ foreign assets by end-2019; while investments in Asia are likely to increase due to the rising confidence in the region.
