LONDON – For the 6 companies examined, revenues declined for most companies for their mining divisions in 2014. The regions such as Asia and Australasia registered the bulk of revenue reductions, whilst companies operating in Africa and Latin America witnessed more growth.

In the global market, Caterpillar was recurrently ranked by respondents as the dominant equipment supplier for excavators, trucks, loaders and dozers. Komatsu followed the leader in each of the aforementioned equipment types.

Each of the companies discussed had considerable growth through the mining super cycle during 2007-2012. Yet they are currently facing challenging market conditions amid a slump in commodity markets, and a reduction in capex worldwide.
