Brazil Fresh Food Marketplace Examined by Euromonitor International in New Report Now Available at MarketPublishers.com

LONDON – As of 2014, fresh food production outputs remained high with a slight decrease, but higher than that witnessed in 2009. The supply of fresh food was higher in 2014 owing to a major (21%) decline in exports, in spite of the Brazilian real’s strong devaluation in 2014. This excess in supply was partly responsible for a significant hike in consumption of fresh foods like fish & seafood, and starchy roots, which went through a period of steady price fluctuations and in several cases (i.e. cassava and potatoes) a reasonable drop in retail prices.

Owing to the improved economic environment, an upsurge in consumer purchasing power, and an excessive supply of meat and fish & seafood, domestic consumption of major sources of animal protein grew considerably. Meat consumption increased whilst that of fish & seafood more than doubled the growth of meat as of 2014. June and July also contributed to this hike owing to the conclusion of Brazil’s FIFA World Cup. The Brazilian Association of Bars & Restaurants (Abrasel) reported a 20% increase in revenue in June as compared to 2013.
