LONDON – The total value of the power generation projects tracked by the Construction Intelligence Center (CIC) was estimated at USD 717 billion across 21 countries in January 2015. Nuclear energy projects dominates the market, valued at close to USD 183 billion, followed by gas projects with a total value of USD 142 and the solar energy sector estimated at close to USD 122 billion.

Country-wise, Saudi Arabia takes the lead in terms of projects value worth USD 149 billion, with South Africa and Nigeria following after, with the projects valued at USD 118 billion and nearly USD 95 billion, respectively. Based on a planned mega-project, the value of Saudi Arabia’s nuclear energy projects stands at USD 100 billion with Nigeria marching ahead in the categories of solar energy, gas, and biomass projects.

Oil power projects are led by the dominant oil producer in Saudi Arabia, with projects being worth USD 24 billion. South Africa leads coal power and wind energy projects. Africa stands out for geothermal projects, with Kenya implementing or planning projects estimated at over USD 9 billion. Ocean power projects are in minority and planned across Kenya and Ghana.
