Nigeria Wealth Sector & HNWIs Performance Discussed by WealthInsight in New Report Published at MarketPublishers.com

31 Mar 2014 • by Natalie Aster

LONDON – As for 2013, the real estate sector was the leading asset class for high net worth individuals (HNWIs) in Nigeria with a 25% share of the country’s total HNWI assets. It was followed by equities (18% share), cash and deposits sector (16%), fixed-income (16%), business interests (15%) share and also alternatives sector (10% share). The alternative, business interest and equity asset classes registered the strongest growth over 2008-2012 of 134%, 150% and 156%, respectively. In 2013, the country’s HNWI liquid assets climbed up to USD 45 billion, calling for just over half of the total wealth holdings.

During 2009-2013, the real estate assets decreased from nearly 27.3% of the combined HNWI assets held in Nigeria in 2009 to around 25% in 2013. Meantime, the allocations to commodities grew from 2.4% of all assets to 3%. By 2018, the allocations in commodities are poised to decrease to 2.2% of the Nigerian total HNWI assets, as liquidity tightens globally owing to an expected short-term decline in demand from China for feedstocks which is likely to spur the world commodity prices to level out.
