Portek International Ltd. Acquires Rigas Universalais Terminals SIA According to BAC Report

LONDON – Earlier this month Portek International acquired Rigas Universalais Terminals SIA (RUT) therefore expanding its terminals list and enhancing presence in European region. Located in the capital of Latvia, RUT will soon become an integrated link of Portek network.

RUT operates its own subsidiaries: UT Komunalserviss SIA, BFT SIA and Alpha Express SIA. The first develops and maintains port infrastructure, the second is a transit cold storage, the third manages railway cargo within port terminals. RUT handles over 2.5 million tons of cargo every year, being the fifth biggest port operator in Riga by cargo volumes. RUT will enable Portek to expand in Baltic area and Scandinavian countries.

Founded in 1988 and headquartered in Singapore, Portek International engages in port operations worldwide. Company’s network covers Southeast Asia, Oceania, Africa, Middle East, Mediterranean, Northern Europe, Atlantic coast of North America, Central and Latin America. With over 1200 employees around the globe Portek offers one-stop port services from cargo unloading and transportation to technical consultancy and equipment leasing. In 2011 the company was acquired by Mitsui Co Ltd, therefore gaining its full support. After that Portek does not keep its own financial records, being a part of its parent company.
