VTG Aktiengesellschaft Shops Worldwide According to BAC Report

14 Dec 2011 • by Natalie Aster

LONDON – VTG AG has immense expansion plans that cover different countries. The company aims to be the world leader in its business, applying rather intense acquisition policy. Thus, in April 2011 VTG went shopping in Italy, purchasing 300 wagons from its Italian competitor Sogerent. VTG management has never concealed their global consolidation plans. And in June another acquisition took place.

Railcraft Group became VTG property in June, with all its offices in Finland, Russia and Estonia. In this way VTG got access to wagon rent business for mineral oil transportation in CIS and Baltic Region.

This December VTG AG announced another acquisition, now in the USA. A wholly-owned subsidiary of Hamburg-based Company purchased SC Rail Leasing America Inc., which in turn is Sumitomo Corporation’s subsidiary. This deal added over 2000 freight cars transporting agricultural products to VTG North American fleet. VTG Rail – VTG North American subsidiary – was once known as Texas Railcar Leasing, but got purchased in 2008 by German wagon-renting giant.

VTG AG is a company with long history and stable financials. Q3 2011 brought slight decrease in company’s indices: revenue lost EUR 3 M, net income dropped below zero from EUR 2.6 M to EUR (0.5) M. Annual results are flat. While revenue increased by 8% and reached EUR 629.4 M, net income declined by 10% and amounted to EUR 19.5 M. Four-year trend reveals constant fluctuations in operating results, but no heavy changes occur in financial reports, and that’s why company’s management seeks for new ways of expansion.

Founded in 1951 and headquartered in Hamburg (Germany), VTG Aktiengesellschaft engages in three major businesses: wagon hire, rail logistics and tank container logistics. In the first segment the company has no match – it applies stern acquisition policy and constantly expands its area of operations. In 2007 VTG went public and registered at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange under the ticker VT9.
