LONDON - Great Eastern Holdings pays great attention to corporate citizen care and local communities engagement. GEH helps with many different cases, giving a lot of importance to children, women and elderly people. Corporate staff actively participates and volunteers in many company’s projects. Together with all Group companies, GEH accumulated over SGD 250,000 for children in need under its ChildrenCare programme. In Singapore, GEH held Great Eastern International Kids Performing Festival, where young people got opportunities to develop appreciation of the arts and their talent. The Festival also encouraged families to spend more time together.
Another event carried by GEH in 2010 was the annual Great Eastern Women 10K run that attracted 12,000 women and gathered funds for Singapore University of Technology and Design and the Breast Cancer Foundation.
In Malaysia, GEH provided scholarships to students that wish to study. Offices in Indonesia, China and Vietnam participated in donation of basic necessities to help people affected by natural disasters.
Company’s financial performance in 2011 shows further improvement in major numbers. In H1 2011 gross premiums and net profit to shareholders increased by 12.5% and 9% comparing to H1 2010, and amounted to SGD 3049.1 M and SGD 276.4 M respectively. In FY 2010 these indices showed slower tempo, reaching SGD 6155.8 M and SGD 507.2 M respectively.
Founded in 1908 and headquartered in Singapore, Great Eastern Holdings engages in life insurance in Asia, particularly Malaysia and Singapore. Other markets are China and Vietnam; they generate around 5% of company’s net sales. GEH offers different insurance plans for young and single people, young families, parents with adult children, and elderly people. The company is public and trades at Singapore Stock Exchange.
