Vinyl acetate refers to an organic compound with the molecular formula C4H6O2. Vinyl acetate is a highly flammable, volatile, slightly soluble and colorless liquid with an unpleasant sweet smell. The melting and boiling points of the compound are -93 °C and 72.7 °C, respectively. Over 80% of produced vinyl acetate is mainly used in polyvinyl acetate emulsions and resins manufacturing.
Vinyl acetate is used to make paints as an emulsion polymer liquid suspension for paints and adhesives. The compound is also utilized for resins and acrylic fibers manufacturing. It is the raw material for polyvinyl alcohol used in nonwoven textile fibers, paper coatings, inks, films, and lacquers production. Annual vinyl acetate demand outnumbers 4 million metric tons. The USA and Brazil are among the key vinyl acetate producers on a global scale. China, Western Europe, the US, Japan are the key consumers of vinyl acetate on a global scale.
