Mica stands for any belonging to a group of hydrous aluminosilicate minerals, naturally occurring in igneous rock, and characterized by high heat and electricity resistance. Mica is supplied in two forms: flakes and sheets. Sheet mica commonly acts as an electric insulator. Flake mica has more application areas: it is used as an absorbent, filler, workability enhancer, cracking preventer, fire proof material, etc.
World production volumes of mica flakes are much higher than the sheets ones. China is the leader of the global market, accounting for 30% of the overall mica output. It is followed by the USA, Korea, France and Canada. At present, BASF Catalyst LLC, Franklin Industrial Minerals Co., Cogebi NV and Santa Fe Gold Corporation are the top players of the mica market.
